• Garlic Beans

    2 pounds good, fresh green beans
    1 tablespoon ghee, olive oil, or vegetable oil
    4 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped coarsely

    2 pounds swordfish chunks
    1/2 cup Newman's vinaigrette salad dressing (or home-made equivalent)

    1 cup mung dal (whole mung beans shelled and split in half, available at Indian stores)
    1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
    1/2 teaspoon turmeric

  • Sour Cherry, Cardamom, and Almond Biscotti--Alice Hawkins

    Makes 3 dozen biscotti

    ½ cup dried sour cherries
    ½ cup fresh orange juice
    1 cup sugar

    1 cup solidly packed fresh basil leaves (no stems)
    1 bulb good garlic (firm, no damage), peeled and chopped
    Good olive oil, as much as needed (see below)
